Bu...Still haven't gotten through the whole things. But I did just now read the paragraph, lamenting the regrettable success of Jenna Jameson's opus along with her, no doubt, good friend Rush L.

To me, these regrettable successes emphasize the importance of publicity and the ability to have a name or a talent (e.g porn acting and loud mouthing) that can be used to further increase awareness of the book being marketed.

In a huge and flat marketplace, simply getting discovered is THE KILLER part of the deal. Big publishing has the infrastructure that can be brought to bear on books that have a Jameson or Rush involved, simply because scale can be achieved and publishers are willing to risk their money on marketing these authors.

That is not the case on everyone else. If you are going to be the author of the goat cheese or the buttermilk book (I read that section too) then for every unit of "x" you deploy on creativity and craft, you need to have another unit of "x" saved and ready to spend on promotion.JeffBachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15396338604465934145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1391041218196162114.post-79103034598894697942009-05-31T07:35:05.131-07:002009-05-31T07:35:05.131-07:00One serious tome you have composed here. "Feedbac...One serious tome you have composed here. "Feedback is the filter" is a great phrase.

In an age where fragmentation is creating an incredibly wide and shallow bookshelf, getting found is getting harder and harder. When you do get "found", hoping for the findee to leave feedback of a positive nature is the next killer hurdle.

Removing one gatekeeper does not mean the next gatekeeper is any easier. The traditional way was cruel. I don't know that this "new" way offers any more hope than the old, nor is it any nicer. If anything it is even more impersonal........
my .02
JeffJeffBachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15396338604465934145noreply@blogger.com
